Every year in February, Gallimard Jeunesse organizes The Night of Harry Potter Books to the delight of fans of the saga. For one or more evenings, bookstores throughout France offer activities for budding wizards.
The "Harry Potter Book Night" is a free event held in bookstores for about a decade, initiated by Gallimard Jeunesse publishing.
It was in 1998 that the first volume of the saga "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was first published in France. Twenty-five years later and thirteen years after the release of the last movie, the pottermania is still going strong.
To sustain the phenomenon and unite a new generation of fans, the French publishing house of the Harry Potter books organizes these events each year, filled with magical games and activities, such as readings, quizzes, and creative workshops.
To ensure the magic comes alive, it is recommended to attend in costume. So, prepare your finest wizard's robe, your magic wand, and come share your passion and knowledge of the wizarding world!
Harry Potter Book Night takes place in bookstores all over France, as well as in certain public libraries and media centers. On this occasion, booksellers across all regions come together to provide readers of the saga with a magical evening.
To find a participating bookstore near you, simply visit the website of Gallimard Jeunesse (link below). There, you can access an interactive map that details the location, date, and times of each event.
Participating bookstores usually specify which audience the planned activities are intended for. It must be said that France has Potterheads of all ages! That's why some events are reserved for children, while others are for teenagers and adults...
For the 10th edition of this event, Harry Potter Book Night is not just taking place over one evening, but four!
This highly anticipated event by fans will take place from Thursday, February 1st to Sunday, February 4th, 2024 in 350 bookstores across France.
To celebrate Harry Potter Book Night, Gallimard Jeunesse publishing house chooses a different theme each year.
In 2024, the event's theme is magical places. The wizarding world is full of secret locations unknown to Muggles, such as Diagon Alley, the Floo Network, and the Chamber of Secrets.
The activities offered during these evenings will be an opportunity for fans to traverse the iconic locations of the Harry Potter saga from platform 9 3/4 to the classrooms of Hogwarts, including the Burrow, Hagrid's hut, and the Ministry of Magic! The program does not specify whether one should arrive by Apparating or by taking the Hogwarts Express...
