Jazz In Marciac: A Jazzy Festival In Gers

The village of Marciac, in Gers, is famous for its internationally renowned jazz festival, organized every summer since 1978. The Jazz in Marciac or JIM has elevated this small village founded in the 13th century to the rank of jazz capital. This year again, prestigious artists will be there.

Jazz in Marciac or "JIM" is a summer festival held every year in August in Marciac, a small village in the Gers.

Marciac is located halfway between Auch and Tarbes, an hour and a half from Toulouse.

The JIM festival attracts thousands of visitors every summer. Autumn, winter, and spring sessions are also organized there.

History of the Festival

The Jazz in Marciac festival has been organized since 1978.

Created at the initiative of a handful of enthusiasts, this event has transformed a village in the heart of Gers into one of the world's great jazz capitals.

Since its inception, this festival with an uncompromising lineup has hosted numerous internationally renowned musicians, including Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Michel Petrucciani, Ray Charles, and Ibrahim Ferrer.

Around the JIM

Many events have been added to the Jazz in Marciac festival.

During the first half of August, the main square of Marciac, adorned with medieval arcades, hosts a free off festival under a giant marquee, featuring orchestras, an antique fair, and stands with regional specialties.

Many artisans exhibit nearby, while the village restaurants or taverns set up for the occasion offer meals with music, providing jazz enthusiasts with all the warmth of Gascon hospitality.

2024 Edition

The Jazz in Marciac Festival will take place from July 18 to August 4, 2024.
