So that vegans or lactose intolerant people are not deprived of the pleasure of a good hot chocolate in winter, simply prepare this comforting drink with coconut milk. Hot chocolate with coconut milk is very easy to make and incredibly delicious. We propose you to discover this recipe in pictures.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make two cups of coconut milk hot chocolate:
20 cl of coconut milk
10 cl of water
2 bars of dark chocolate for baking
1 teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa for decoration
To note: for this vegan hot chocolate recipe, I simply used 52% cocoa baking chocolate. But there's nothing to stop you from using a slightly stronger chocolate, such as 4 squares of 70% or 80% cocoa tasting chocolate.
Preparation
The method for making two cups of hot chocolate with coconut milk is simple.
1- Mix the coconut milk and water in a small saucepan.
2- Add the dark chocolate broken into pieces and place the pan over medium heat.
Cooking
1- Heat the contents of the pan over medium heat, stirring constantly with a teaspoon.
2- You must stir this mixture well until the chocolate tiles melt.
Your coconut milk hot chocolate will gradually take on a nice chocolatey hue.
Finishes
1- When all the chocolate pieces have melted, lower the heat.
2- Continue making the coconut milk hot chocolate on low heat, ideally mixing your drink with a small whisk.
3- The chocolate is ready when the liquid comes to a simmer and takes on a beautiful, even and brilliant color.
Tasting advice
1- Pour the hot chocolate with coconut milk into two cups.
2- As this drink is quite greedy and thick, there is no need to provide more than 15 cl per person approximately.
3- Before serving, I simply sprinkled each cup with a veil of unsweetened cocoa powder, for decoration and to enhance the cocoa flavor of this drink.
To note: it is also possible to prepare a spicier version of this vegan hot chocolate by adding a pinch of cinnamon and/or turmeric at the end of cooking.
Good to know
Since this coconut milk hot chocolate recipe does not contain cow's milk, it is suitable for vegan people who do not consume any animal products.
This recipe also offers a gourmet alternative to classic hot chocolate for anyone who is lactose intolerant.
Nowadays, different vegetable milks are easily found in the market, such as oat milk, almond milk or hazelnut milk for example, which allow you to prepare all kinds of hot drinks without cow's milk.
Coconut milk, however, seems to me to be unbeatable for obtaining a creamy texture worthy of a real old-fashioned hot chocolate. By the way, if you find the result too greasy, you can adjust the amount of water to your liking.
