The Ban des Truffes, which takes place in Richerenches in the Vaucluse in mid-November, is the autumnal rendezvous of all gourmets! This festival marks the official opening of the Richerenches truffle market, which is the largest black truffle market in France.
In the Vaucluse, we devote to the truffle or Tuber Melanosporum a real cult! The precious black diamond has its festivals, its markets and even its mass...
Contrary to popular belief, it is not in the southwest but in the southeast of France that the most truffles are produced. The department of Vaucluse alone markets 70% of French black truffles on its wholesale markets.
The largest black truffle market in France is held in Richerenches, in the Enclave des Papes. More than 700 kg of Tuber Melanosporum are traded there during the peak season, from mid-November to mid-March.
Just as the traditional Ban des Vendanges proclaims the beginning of the grape harvest in September, the Ban des truffes marks the opening of the truffle market in Richerenches.
The members of the Brotherhood of the Black Diamond and Gastronomy, dressed in their ceremonial clothes, officially proclaim the opening of the truffle market.
A must for epicureans, this event is an opportunity to enjoy the first truffles of the season. This festive day is marked by many activities: truffle search with truffle dogs, tastings, conference and special truffle menu.
The next edition of the Truffle Ban will be held in Richerenches on Saturday, December 3, 2022 starting at 10am.
