Tzatziki: The Foolproof Recipe

Tzatziki is a Greek specialty made with cucumber. This cold spread, found on the menu of every taverna in Greece, is served as a starter with pita bread or as a side dish with certain meats. We invite you to discover this very easy recipe that will delight all lovers of cucumber and Greek yogurt.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients needed to make tzatziki for 4 people:

1 small grated cucumber.
2 Greek yogurts (250 g).
1 teaspoon of olive oil.
1 teaspoon of tzatziki mix.
½ teaspoon of white vinegar.

Note: The tzatziki mix I bought in a supermarket in Greece contains garlic powder, salt, pepper, and dried dill.

Cucumber preparation

The preparation of tzatziki is very simple.

1- Wash and peel the Cucumber.

2- Grate it onto a plate using a coarse grater.

Note: In this very simple recipe, there is no need to drain the grated cucumber with salt.

Preparation of Tzatziki

Once you have prepared the grated cucumber, all you need to do is mix the ingredients in order.

1- Pour the Greek yogurt into a deep container.

2- Add the olive oil, white vinegar, and tzatziki spices. Mix well.

If you don't have a ready-made spice mix, generously season the Greek yogurt with garlic powder and dried dill, then salt and pepper to taste.

3- Finally, incorporate the grated cucumber, mix gently, and chill.

Tasting tips

1- Keep the tzatziki chilled for at least an hour before serving.

2- Serve this spread as an appetizer or starter with slices of toasted bread or preferably pita bread.

In Greece, this dish is traditionally served on a shared plate, with soft pita bread and sometimes olives.
