Even though it's not scientifically proven, many people believe there is a connection between the Moon and hair growth. Just as some gardeners refer to the lunar calendar before planting or pruning plants, you can use this tool to make your hair grow faster... or slower! We'll explain how to cut your hair with the moon.
What is the principle?
The Moon, which is Earth's only natural satellite, has captivated humanity since time immemorial. Many civilizations have deified this celestial body, elevating it to the status of a god or goddess, and even today, festivals are dedicated to it.
It is therefore not surprising that many people believe the moon affects our mood, or even our health... A widely held popular belief asserts that certain phases of the moon bring vitality to hair and promote its growth, while others may slow down this process.
To date, no scientific evidence has confirmed this theory, but it costs nothing to trim one's hair according to the lunar cycle... except, of course, for the price of the haircut ;-)
How to use the lunar calendar?
In a cycle, the Moon goes through 4 main phases, with the most well-known being the full moon, of course!
The 4 phases of the Moon follow in this order:
1- The New Moon where the celestial body is invisible in the sky.
2- The First Quarter.
3- The Full Moon.
4- The Last Quarter.
Between the New Moon and the Full Moon, the visible part of the celestial body increases each night; it is said that the Moon is waxing.
Between the Full Moon and the New Moon, the visible part of the celestial body decreases each night; it is said that the Moon is waning.
These different phases, as well as the ascending or descending position of the Moon in the sky, are believed to have an influence on hair.
If you want to cut your hair with the Moon, the best way to schedule your appointment at the hairdresser at the right time is to consult a lunar calendar where all this information is indicated (see the last paragraph).
How to have longer hair?
If you want longer, stronger, and thicker hair, visit the hairdresser during the waxing phase (between the New Moon and the Full Moon). The waxing phase promotes and increases hair growth. If it coincides with a rising (or ascending) Moon, the regrowth is even faster.
As this phase is conducive to hair renewal, treatments such as conditioners and hair masks are said to be even more effective during this period.
The same goes for hair coloring: it is believed to be more effective and to take better during the waxing phase. This is a tip worth knowing to make your color last longer!
How to make your haircut last longer?
On the contrary, if you have a short haircut and want it to last a few more weeks, visit the hairdresser during the waning phase!
During this phase, which occurs after the full moon, hair growth is much slower. Therefore, you won't need to go back to the hairdresser quickly to freshen up your cut.
The waning phase is also said to slow down the regrowth of hair and even nails! In conclusion: this period is also the most suitable for waxing.
What should be remembered?
In summary, remember that:
- the waxing and growing moon encourages rapid growth of nails and hair.
- the waning and decreasing moon slows down the regrowth of hair and nails.
You now know how to make the most of the Moon's phases to take care of yourself and your hair.
Refer to the lunar calendar below for the exact dates and wait for the right time to get your haircut. Cutting your hair with the moon sometimes requires a little patience...
