If you already prioritize organic certified products for your cosmetics, you will be delighted to learn that the certification body Ecocert is launching a Sustainable Wellness Establishment label. This label, which rewards an environmentally friendly approach, concerns spas, beauty centers, sports facilities, as well as hair salons and barbershops. Explanation.
Who are the professionals involved?
As its name suggests, the new Sustainable Wellness Establishment label from Ecocert is aimed at professionals in the wellness and sports industry.
The establishments that can apply for this certification are:
• spas
• beauty centers
• hair salons
• gyms and fitness centers
• barbers or barber shops
In the face of the climate emergency, more and more professionals in these fields are rethinking their way of working, and this new label will allow them to highlight their commitments by displaying the following logo:
What is a sustainable well-being approach?
All establishments dedicated to well-being and sports offer their clients a moment of relaxation focused on the concept of "self-care".
Whether they are located in nature or in an urban setting, certified establishments will provide consumers with an environmentally friendly service.
The Ecocert Sustainable Well-being Establishment label aims to help consumers recognize places committed to sustainable practices. This approach involves offering products, services, equipment, and facilities that are more respectful of the planet and people, meeting criteria of naturalness, traceability, ethics, and environmental preservation.
Barbara Pruvost, Head of Cosmetics and Household Products Certification at Ecocert, explains: "We realized that many professionals are taking positive initiatives for the environment, but many do not know how to communicate them for fear of being accused of greenwashing [...]. The Sustainable Well-being Establishment label developed by Ecocert will allow them to structure their approach, highlight it, and go even further with a comprehensive and coherent approach."
What are the criteria to be met?
The new Ecocert Sustainable Wellness Establishment label aims to:
- Bring together and highlight the initiatives already undertaken by wellness professionals
- Encourage new establishments to commit to sustainable wellness.
To be eligible for this certification, spas, hairdressers, and other aesthetic establishments must implement actions focused on three main areas:
1- Reduce their environmental footprint through responsible management of water, energy, and waste
2- Offer and use certified natural or organic products, such as cosmetics, textiles, cleaning products, and snacks...
3- Meet social criteria to ensure the well-being of staff and provide quality services for customers.
What are the three levels of certification for the label?
The Ecocert Sustainable Wellness Establishment label offers professionals in the wellness and sports industry 3 levels of certification to support them in a progressive approach.
Level 1 corresponds to a common set of requirements on the three mentioned axes (environmental management, environmentally friendly products, and social commitments).
To reach levels 2 and 3, certified establishments must provide additional commitments to be chosen from a list of about thirty proposals.
Level 2 corresponds to the common set plus 3 strong points, and level 3 corresponds to the common set plus 6 strong points. The choice given to each professional allows them to select the most relevant challenges for their establishment.
An audit is conducted every year by Ecocert to verify that the certified establishment complies with the label's requirements and respects its commitments.
Where to find certified establishments?
The new Ecocert Sustainable Wellness Establishment label is not limited to the French market. For over 30 years, the Ecocert group has been supporting and promoting sustainable practices in more than 130 countries.
With its global presence and 37 subsidiaries, this certification body aims to expand this new label internationally, offering it to both large hotel spas and small independent establishments.
Through this new labeling, Ecocert aims to create an international network of committed partners, working collectively for a more sustainable world.
