This week is MuseumWeek on Twitter. This unprecedented partnership between a social network and cultural institutions provides an opportunity for internet users to interact with 500 museums around the world! Each day, a different theme and hashtag allow for a new way to discover museums.
A French initiative
The Museum Week on Twitter, or MuseumWeek, is scheduled from June 3 to June 9, 2024, initiated by Twitter France and 12 French museums. However, many British, Spanish, or Italian museums have also been charmed by this project and have decided to join in.
For one week, internet users will be able to interact with over 520 museums around the world. This event includes 91 participating museums in France, 300 in England, and 70 in Spain!
In France, the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, the Cité des Sciences, the Grand Palais RMN, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée d'Orsay, as well as the Musée du quai Branly and the Palais de Tokyo are taking part.
A theme per day
During this Museum Week on Twitter, each day has its theme and hashtag! Museums will tweet exclusive content related to the day's theme, and the audience can react and share their favorites, questions, and even their creations!
To communicate about this event, you can also use the generic hashtag: #MuseumWeek
Note: during this museum week, no discounts are planned for entry to the establishments. To visit "in real life," the usual fee will apply.
Good to know
Museums and cultural institutions did not wait for this MuseumWeek to be present on Twitter. These establishments form the community of "museogeeks", a creative, dynamic, and connected group!
The Twitter accounts of museums are indeed gaining increasing success with the public for the information and visit advice they provide. To show that a museum is a living place, museums even tweet images of their behind-the-scenes during their weekly closing day (see the hashtag #jourdefermeture).
The first edition of #MuseumWeek therefore promises to be very well-attended. This event could even one day become as popular as the Heritage Days or the Music Festival... We certainly hope so.
