Doctor Odyssey: A Series That Takes Us On A Journey

Since October 24th, the Disney+ platform offers French viewers a new delightful medical series. Doctor Odyssey follows the adventures of a cruise ship doctor who must juggle between the crew's misadventures and unpredictable medical emergencies.

A medical series along the water

If you were once a fan of TV series like The Love Boat and ER, you will love Doctor Odyssey, one of the new offerings on Disney+!

This fiction revisits the medical drama genre by transposing the emergencies and dramas typical of this type of show onto a cruise ship. Like in Grey's Anatomy, for example, the hero must deal with professional challenges and personal tensions, with the key difference being that the plot unfolds aboard a magnificent ship called the Odyssey.

If you enjoy the world of luxury cruises as in another Disney+ series, Murder and Other Complications, don't hesitate to embark on a new journey that promises to be more eventful than expected!

A cast of shock and charm

In the leading role of the series Doctor Odyssey, viewers will also have the pleasure of seeing Joshua Jackson, aka Pacey, Dawson's best friend from the 2000s. The Canadian actor, familiar with TV series, was also featured in the series Fringe created by J.J. Abrams from 2008 to 2013, and then in the series The Affair.

Even though Dawson's best friend now has graying temples, his charming smile works wonders in the role of Dr. Max Bankman, a former chief surgeon at a renowned hospital who decided to change his life after nearly dying from Covid-19.

Just like Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy or Dr. Ross, the dashing pediatrician played by George Clooney in ER, Joshua Jackson is the heartthrob of this new medical series. Enough to make more than one female viewer swoon!

Alongside him, we find Phillipa Soo as a confident and determined nurse, Sean Teale as a jealous nurse, and even Don Johnson, the unforgettable star of Miami Vice, in the role of the captain. Throughout the episodes, a few guest stars including Shania Twain and Margaret Cho make appearances.

A fun fiction above all

If the grayness of autumn gets you down, the series Doctor Odyssey is the remedy you need! A true antidote to gloom, this fiction with a sunny atmosphere has no other ambition than to entertain the viewer for 40 minutes. It includes all the ingredients that make the genre successful: medical emergencies, suspense, friction between colleagues, and of course romance!

When it comes to medical cases, from heart attacks to the risk of drowning and the ups and downs of life at sea, this series co-written by Ryan Murphy does not shine for its realism. But with Dr. Max Bankman always on deck to save the passengers' lives, we willingly get carried away by this old-fashioned entertainment. Just like The Love Boat in the 1980s, Disney+'s new medical series promises to make us travel and dream without any hassle. Are you ready to set sail?
