Popstars Is Making Its Return On Prime Video

Popstars was the first talent show imported to France in 2001. Broadcast on M6 until 2007, the show returned on D8 in 2013. In 2024, the streaming platform Prime Video decided to revive this cult program. Times have changed, and so has the jury, but the goal of this talent show remains the same: to create the pop group of tomorrow.

An already ancient concept

Sometimes the best shows are made with old concepts. Amazon's streaming platform, Prime Video, understands this well as it has decided to revive Popstars more than ten years after the last edition of this talent show, which aired in 2013 on D8.

Launched in 2001, this musical show has had its ups and downs. After finding its audience and enabling the meteoric success of L5, the show ended in 2007 after a fourth season with disappointing ratings.

The contestants who participated in this program also experienced varying fortunes, from the fleeting glory of L5 to the crushing failure of What For. After the flop of Link Up (a group created by the show in 2003), only M. Pokora managed to stand out...

A new jury in tune with the times

By relaunching Popstars, Prime Video hopes to ride the wave of viewers' enthusiasm for programs from past decades and the return of cult talent shows like Star Academy...

The streaming platform has, however, undertaken to revamp this program and bring it up to date, even though it's challenging to create something new and original with such a "formatted" concept.

Now, there's no more mocking of candidates during auditions. The "off-key voices" are cut in editing, and the artistic direction is marked by elegant sobriety.

Among the new features of the 2024 version, the most notable is undoubtedly the jury composed of Louane, Eddy de Pretto, and Alonzo. These contemporary artists are tasked with coaching and unveiling young talents without setting any limits. The selected talents, their chemistry, and their personalities will determine the final group.

A two-phase broadcast

To discover Popstars version 2024, you need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. You also need to be patient because this new season, composed of 8 episodes of approximately 50 minutes each, is not yet available in its entirety.

The first four episodes were released online on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The last four episodes (which are also the best) will be available starting October 19, 2024.

The group that was finally created will be revealed at the beginning of episode 5, which will be released on October 19, the day before the release of their EP. It will then be up to the public to give their verdict.
