The Weakest Link On M6: 5 Things To Know About The Show's Return

Good news for fans of The Weakest Link, the game that left a lasting impression in the 2000s when it was hosted by Laurence Boccolini on TF1! This cult program is making a grand return to our screens to celebrate its 25th anniversary. For one special anniversary evening, viewers will be able to enjoy their favorite game once again... on M6. Here’s what we already know about this new version of the game.

1- The Weakest Link will return... for one evening only.

The information leaked on social media in October 2023, was denied, and then finally confirmed in March 2024: the cult game show The Weakest Link is coming back to television! To recap, this program, hosted by Laurence Boccolini, was a hit on TF1 between 2001 and 2007.

It was later revived on the D8 channel with Julien Courbet as the host in 2014. However, the adventure lasted only a year. The announcement of the game's return to the airwaves caused a stir on the web last year. However, it is important to temper this news with two significant clarifications.

First, this program is not returning to TF1 as before, but to M6. Second, the game will not be broadcast regularly, daily or every weekend, but only for a special anniversary evening. Indeed, M6 has decided to revive this concept to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this now-cult game show.

2- The game will be hosted by actor Vincent Dedienne.

Much to the dismay of the many viewers who loved Laurence Boccolini's biting humor and ironic tone while hosting this program, the historic host of this game will not be returning for this special evening.

For the return of The Weakest Link on M6, the production has called upon actor and comedian Vincent Dedienne. We can count on this multi-award-winning comedian, who has been a columnist on television and radio, to liven up the set.

3- Sixteen personalities will compete for the benefit of associations.

On this anniversary evening, it won't be anonymous contestants competing on the set, but celebrities. Sixteen personalities will attempt to answer general knowledge questions, without breaking the chain of correct answers to avoid becoming the Weakest Link!

Regarding this new version of the game and his role as host, Vincent Dedienne stated in a press release: "I have three passions in life: performing, board games, and animals. That's why I've been a fan of The Weakest Link since childhood, because this show combines (almost) everything I love. I suggested doing a unique version of The Weakest Link with only dogs, but M6 responded, 'we prefer celebrities.' I said okay, but we'll see who dares to come play with me to celebrate the anniversary of this iconic game. Because we know, stars are less brave than beasts."

At the end of June 2024, Télé Star announced a list of prestigious guests, including Florence Foresti, Julie Gayet, Arnaud Ducret, Bernard Campan, Michel Hazanavicius, Camille Combal, and even Monsieur Poulpe. All these personalities will play for the benefit of a charity.

4- The game will not be exactly the same as before.

With the return of The Weakest Link to prime time, the channel M6 is playing the nostalgia card, as it did last March by reviving The Price is Right hosted by Éric Antoine.

Even though we don't yet know all the details of the program, M6 and Vincent Dedienne have stated that the game will not be exactly the same as before. Of course, fans expect the fundamentals of this game to be respected. But this special evening might hold a few surprises for them...

One thing is certain: thanks to the host and the guest personalities in the studio, humor and entertainment should still be on the agenda!

5- The release date is not yet known.

If you are one of the early fans, you are undoubtedly eager to revisit the game that made you laugh so much in the 2000s. Although the channel has been announcing the return of this program on air for several months, you will have to wait a little longer.

For now, the M6 channel has simply aired a delightfully ironic trailer, without specifying an exact broadcast date.

Patience! You may have to wait until the fall, after the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympics and the summer programming schedule, to enjoy this special episode of The Weakest Link at 9:10 PM on M6.
