On the occasion of the Mont-Blanc Marathon, the best runners meet in Chamonix for one of the flagship events of the French and international calendar. This sporting event is held every year in June in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley.
The Mont-Blanc Marathon (MMB) is a sports event that offers you the opportunity to run in an exceptional setting: the valleys of Chamonix, at over 3000 meters above sea level facing Mont-Blanc!
Part of these races go through the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve, an emblematic site protected by the Community of Communes of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley since 1972.
This event, created in 2003, brings together several running competitions (trail or mountain running) starting from Chamonix: a marathon race (42km with a positive elevation gain of about 2500 meters), an 80-kilometer trail, a cross-country race, a 10-kilometer race, a vertical kilometer (3.8 km and D + 1000m), as well as short-distance races for children.
Three of these races are part of the Skyrunning competition calendar:
- The Mont-Blanc Marathon is part of the Salomon Skyrunner France Series 2015 circuit, which includes 6 stages throughout France.
- The 80 Km du Mont-Blanc will count towards the Skyrunner World Series ranking, in the Ultra category.
- The Mont-Blanc Vertical Kilometer will count towards the Skyrunning Continental Championships, in the VK category.
The next Mont-Blanc Marathon will take place from June 22 to 25, 2023. 6500 runners and over 14,000 supporters are expected in Chamonix for this weekend of effort. This sports event open to all will revolve around six races: the 90 km Mont-Blanc, the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, the Cross du Mont-Blanc, the Vertical KM, the 10 km Mont-Blanc, and the Mini Cross. On Thursday, June 22, there will be a Trail Camp and Marathon du Mont-Blanc Salon at Place du Mont-Blanc from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. On Friday, June 23, the 90 km Mont-Blanc and the Vertical KM will take place with the awards ceremony for the Vertical KM starting at 9:00 pm. On Saturday, June 24, the 23 km, Mini Cross, 10 km, and Duo Etoilé races will take place with the awards ceremony starting at 4:00 pm. On Sunday, June 25, the 42 km Mont-Blanc and the Young Race Marathon will take place with the awards ceremony starting at 5:00 pm.
This exhibition, which brings together equipment manufacturers and various trails, is accessible to everyone for free.
The bib collection will also take place at Place du Mont-Blanc in a large tent specially set up for the occasion.
Many activities supervised by UCPA animators will be offered to children: climbing wall and trampolines.
Finally, note that a raffle is organized for each race of the Mont-Blanc Marathon, with many prizes to be won!
