Colmar is one of the most renowned cities in Alsace for the quality of its Christmas markets and the beauty of its decorations. During the holiday season, five magical Christmas markets set up in the center of Colmar.
A city of art and history, Colmar is adorned with lights for the holiday season. Its exceptional architectural heritage, ranging from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, is highlighted at nightfall by a subtle play of lights.
Throughout December, decorated shop windows and houses contribute to creating a magical atmosphere. Five Christmas markets, each with its own identity, are set up in the city center. One of them is especially dedicated to children.
Note: every year, the people of Colmar participate in a decoration contest and compete in creativity to adorn the facades of houses and shop windows.
For six weeks, the 5 Christmas Markets of Colmar welcome more than 160 exhibitors.
The Market at Place des Dominicains sets up its little houses around the Dominican Church dating back to the 14th century. At dusk, the beautifully restored Stained Glass windows of the church are illuminated to create a magical atmosphere on this small square.
The Market at Place Jeanne d'Arc is nestled among the half-timbered houses. Dedicated to Local Products, it offers all food lovers Foie Gras and Christmas cakes, as well as Alsatian wines and brandies...
The Children's Christmas Market is set up near the picturesque district of Petite Venise. Its 43 brightly painted little houses are specially designed to please the little ones. Families can discover an animated nativity scene, enjoy a carousel ride, and post their letter to Santa Claus in a giant mailbox (with a daily prize draw).
The Market at Place de l'Ancienne Douane brings together about fifty little houses arranged around the Schwendi fountain and leaning against the Koïfhus, a majestic building from the 14th and 15th centuries.
The Indoor Market of the Koïfhus invites you to come in and warm up inside this beautiful medieval building. Here, you can discover the creations of artisans (potters, master glassmakers, cabinetmakers, woodcarvers, jewelers, and antique dealers...). On the first floor, artisans have modernized traditional Alsatian objects and exhibit these unusual creations.
The Christmas Markets in Colmar will take place from November 23 to December 29, 2023.
