Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe, enjoys an exceptional setting at 2,300 meters above sea level. It is regularly awarded for the quality of its facilities and services, which attract some 300,000 holidaymakers each winter. It was even voted the best ski resort in the world at the World Ski Awards 2023.
A crowning achievement for Val-Tho
After winning the title of Best Station in France and Best Station in Europe, Val Thorens was voted the Best Ski Resort in the World at the World Ski Awards 2023.
As a reminder, the resort of Val-Thorens, established in 1971, is the highest in Europe. It is located at an altitude of 2300 meters and is the summit of the largest ski area in the world, the 3 Vallées with its 600 km of interconnected ski runs.
With its geographical location and snow coverage, Val-Tho offers unparalleled skiing conditions throughout the season. An unforgettable mountain holiday experience awaits you!
An 8th title in 11 editions
This title of the best ski resort in the world is not a first for the Val Thorens ski resort! On the contrary, this Alpine resort has been crowned for the eighth time in 2023, out of eleven editions of the World Ski Awards.
This organization has been conducting an online vote open to everyone since 2013, to reward the quality of hospitality in ski areas. The World Ski Awards ranking of the best ski resorts in the world was unveiled on Monday, November 13, 2023.
The Savoyard resort has risen to the top of this ranking, despite competition from prestigious resorts in Switzerland, Austria, Canada, and even Australia! To date, only the ski resorts of Verbier in Switzerland and Kitzbühel in Austria have managed to dethrone the French resort of Val-Tho in previous editions.
A podium that is not surprising
In 2023, the winter sports resort of Val-Thorens reclaimed its title from Verbier (which was elected in 2021 and 2022). The Austrian resort of Kitzbühel, crowned in 2015, completes the 2023 podium.
Val-Tho's regular presence at the top of the world podium is explained by the multiple advantages of this winter sports resort in the Tarentaise Valley. It boasts over 600 km of well-snowed slopes because they are located at 90% above 2,000 meters in altitude. The resort is also one of the first to launch its season as it opened part of its ski area as early as Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Furthermore, the Laax resort in Switzerland has been named the best freestyle resort in the world and the best green ski hotel in the world. Verbier has won the title of the best ski hotel in the world, while Zermatt takes the title of the best ski chalet in the world. This is sure to inspire tourists looking for a destination for their winter holidays! After the pandemic, the 2023 season is starting under the best auspices.
