The Mumo: The Museum Truck That Democratizes Contemporary Art.

Contemporary art has the reputation of being elitist and inaccessible, especially for people who live away from big cities. It is to share contemporary creation with those who are geographically farthest away that MuMo or Mobile Museum was created. We invite you to discover this museum-truck that travels the roads of France and beyond with works of art.

A museum as beautiful as a truck.

If you don't go to the museum, the museum will come to you! That could be the motto of the MuMo or Mobile Museum, an original initiative launched by Ingrid Brochard in 2011.

This entrepreneur, committed to promoting access to culture for all, imagined this museum truck to share contemporary art with school and other audiences who are far away.

For more than ten years, this museum on wheels has been traveling the roads of France and elsewhere with temporary exhibitions featuring works of contemporary art on board. It is estimated that since 2011, this itinerant museum has met more than 150,000 visitors.

This initiative, which introduces modern and contemporary art in rural and peri-urban areas, is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Art Explora Foundation.

Three carefully designed trucks in twelve years.

Since its creation in 2011, three trucks have succeeded each other for the MuMo. The first version of the Mobile Museum was designed by architect Adam Kalkin in a container.

The second version of this traveling museum was created in 2017 by designer Matali Crasset to showcase artworks from the collections of CNAP and FRAC.

The latest version of this museum truck was born in 2022. It is the result of a collaboration between the Mobile Museum and the Centre Pompidou, which is the largest institution of contemporary art in Europe.

This truck, called MuMo x Centre Pompidou, is a work of art in itself. It was imagined by Hérault Arnod Architectures and artist Krijn de Koning.

Traveling exhibitions in suburbs and rural areas.

For more than ten years, the Mobile Museum has been traveling artworks to regions and territories where the general public and school audiences do not always have the opportunity to discover contemporary art. After an exhibition titled "Animals come out of their reserve" in 2022, MuMo hits the road again in 2023 for a touring exhibition on the theme of music. The exhibition, "Music! Music!" will tour Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Val-de-Marne, Essonne, and Val-d'Oise in the spring of 2023. This exhibition was imagined by Christian Briend, curator of the modern collections department at the National Museum of Modern Art. It brings together graphic works, photos, paintings, and collages representing music. Fifteen of these works inspired by music are from the collections of the Pompidou Center.
