The National Archaeology Days: A Journey Back In Time

The National Archaeology Days aim to introduce the general public to a discipline that is often little known. For three days, the main actors in the field mobilize in museums and excavation sites to share their passion for archaeology with as many people as possible.

An exciting discipline

Archaeology is an exciting science in more ways than one. By digging into the depths of the subsoil, it brings an entire heritage back to life. A true "time machine," it exhumes the remains of vanished civilizations and offers another way to write history.

The National Archaeology Days or JNA are organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Communication to better acquaint the general public with this discipline, its professions, and its methods.

A national demonstration

During the National Archaeology Days, all the actors in this discipline (archaeologists, researchers, curators, restorers, museums, and archaeological sites) come together to showcase their work and the current state of knowledge in this field.

Whether you are an archaeology enthusiast or a novice, don't miss the numerous open houses organized for the occasion!

Throughout France, excavation sites welcome you, and museums reveal objects taken from their reserves. Exhibitions, conferences, and film screenings are also offered free of charge.

2024 Edition

This edition of the National Archaeology Days will be held on June 14, 15, and 16, 2024.

This year, more than 1000 events will be organized and over 600 sites will open their doors to you.
Through visits to excavation sites, archaeological sites, exhibitions, museums, or laboratories, come meet all the actors of archaeology!

These various events are coordinated by Inrap (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research).
