European Elections: The Eu&i App Helps You Choose Your Party
As the June 9, 2024 election approaches, you might still be unsure about which ballot to cast in the upcoming European elections... To help undecided voters make an informed choice, there is a free and easy-to-use application. We will explain how the EU&I app determines the party that best matches your personal beliefs.
Why use the EU&I app?
The June 9th election is fast approaching, but some voters are undoubtedly undecided in the face of the numerous proposals from the parties running for the 2024 European elections.
The programs of the 7 main candidates are very detailed and sometimes overlap. When diving into the reading of these manifestos or trying to follow the debates between the candidates in the media, the risk is to come out even more confused.
Fortunately, the European University Institute in Florence has devised a tool to simplify the lives of European citizens and help voters make an informed choice in the upcoming election. The EU&I application is a free online tool available in more than 20 languages.
It determines your profile and indicates the political parties closest to your personal convictions through a simple questionnaire. This online tool also aims to clarify the positions of different political parties on crucial issues, so that voters can make their choice with full knowledge of the facts. However, the tool itself remains neutral and non-partisan.
How to use the EU&I app?
If you wish to test the EU&I application, simply visit the official website of the application (see the link below) and answer the proposed questionnaire.
The questionnaire developed by the European University Institute in Florence consists of 30 questions or rather 30 statements to which respondents are invited to react.
The first question asked concerns the country where you vote. However, since the questionnaire is intended for all European citizens, its content is the same regardless of your country of residence within the European Union.
What are the themes addressed in the EU&I application?
The EU&I app presents itself as a voting advice application or voting advice application (VAA) in English.
To identify the political parties that match your personal beliefs, this app asks for your opinion on divisive issues, such as state deficits, the European single currency, immigration, or the Green Deal in Europe… But, of course, this online tool guarantees the anonymity and confidentiality of your responses.
Once you have responded to the 30 statements in the questionnaire, the app asks you to weight each of your responses. You must indicate, using plus or minus symbols, whether you consider this question important.
On the next page, the results are displayed as percentages indicating your “degree of compatibility” with the program of a particular political party. You can then click on the name of a party to view its positions and compare them with yours on each statement in the questionnaire.
The app also generates a diagram that allows you to position yourself within the European political landscape, between left and right, progressives and conservatives.
