Grandma's Easy Turkey Stir-fry Recipe
If you're in the mood for a good old-fashioned casserole, try this recipe for Grandma's Turkey Stir-Fry! This poultry stew, with bacon and mushrooms, is delicious with old-fashioned mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make Grandma's Style Turkey Stir-Fry for 4 people:
500 g turkey stir-fry
250 g small button mushrooms
100 g smoked bacon
1 large white onion
20 g flour
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons of olive oil
salt and pepper
Preparation of the filling
To garnish this grandma-style turkey stir-fry, it is most convenient to use small button mushrooms that you simply cut in half or quarters depending on their size, as in the photo below.
1- Wash the mushrooms.
2- Cut them in two or four and reserve them for the rest of the recipe.
To note: if you use large button mushrooms, cut them into strips.
3- Peel and slice the white onion.
Preparation of the meat
For this recipe, I recommend cooking the turkey stir-fry Grandma's way in a cast iron casserole dish. If you don't have a casserole, you can use a large sauté pan.
1- Heat the olive oil in the casserole over high heat.
2- Brown the turkey pieces until they are colored on all sides.
3- Add salt and pepper moderately as the bacon is already salty.
Preparation of the turkey stir-fry
1- When the pieces of meat are well colored, remove them from the pot.
2- Instead, brown the lardons, the minced onion and the mushrooms. These ingredients will make up the garnish of your grandmotherly turkey stir-fry.
3- Mix everything well until it is colored, then put the turkey pieces back into the casserole.
Preparation of the sauce
1- When all the ingredients are well browned, sprinkle them with flour and mix well.
2- Cover with water just to the top and add the tomato paste to make the sauce for the grandma's turkey stir-fry.
3- Cover the casserole and lower the heat.
Cooking the turkey stir-fry
1- Cook the turkey stir-fry grandma style for 30 minutes on low heat.
2- Serve piping hot with a side of starches.
To note: I advise you to serve this complete dish with local flavors with a good homemade mashed potatoes. But nothing prevents you from accompanying it with simple steamed potatoes or pasta.
