The Pumpkin Pecan Thanksgiving Pie: A Very Easy Recipe
In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the last Thursday of November with a big family meal, featuring specialties like turkey and cranberry sauce. On the dessert side, traditionally, a pie is prepared, which can be apple pie, pumpkin pie or pecan pie. For all those who want to follow this American tradition, here is a very easy recipe for a pumpkin and pecan pie.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients needed to make a Pumpkin Pecan Thanksgiving Pie for 4-6 people:
1 roll of shortcrust pastry
350 g pumpkin flesh
2 eggs
50 g brown sugar
40 g maple syrup
10 g butter
100 g pecans
a knob of butter for the mold
Preparation of the pumpkin
The first step in this recipe is to cook and puree the pumpkin.
1- Cut the pumpkin into pieces and cook it 30 minutes in boiling water.
2- Let it cool for about 15 minutes before blending it with an immersion blender until you get a smooth puree.
To note: to go faster, you can also use frozen pumpkin puree that you will simply thaw in the pan before using it in this pumpkin and pecan pie recipe.
Preparation of the maple syrup
For this pumpkin and pecan Thanksgiving pie, I chose to incorporate maple syrup to follow the traditional American pecan pie recipe.
1- In a small saucepan, mix the maple syrup with the butter cut into small pieces.
2- Heat over low heat until the butter is melted.
3- When the butter is melted, mix and let cool.
Preparation of the filling
1- In a large bowl, whisk the whole eggs with the brown sugar.
2- Add the maple syrup and butter mixture, then the pumpkin puree.
3- Mix well until you obtain a homogeneous preparation. This mixture will serve as the filling for your pumpkin and pecan pie.
Assembly of the pie
1- Butter a pie pan and line it with the shortcrust pastry. Prick the bottom of the pie with a fork.
2- Pour the pumpkin puree preparation.
3- Spread the pecans nicely on top of your pumpkin and pecan Thanksgiving pie.
Baking the pie
1- Preheat your oven to 180°C.
2- Bake the pumpkin and pecan Thanksgiving pie for 40 minutes.
3- Let it cool before eating.
Those with a sweet tooth can accompany it with a scoop of vanilla and pecan ice cream of course!
