Clay: What Benefits For The Stomach?
White or green clay is often used as a face mask. But did you know that this earthy rock has other therapeutic virtues? It is a natural and effective remedy for relieving gastric problems and abdominal pain.
Many properties
Clay masks are a well-known grandmother's recipe for purifying the skin and brightening the complexion.
Less known, however, is that clay has other therapeutic virtues. This earthy rock, rich in minerals and trace elements, possesses numerous properties. When applied as a poultice on the skin, it is soothing, healing, disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial.
It is also indicated for digestive problems, such as stomachaches and abdominal pain.
Benefits for digestion
Clay has a quick and natural action against digestive disorders. It acts in the same way as a gastric bandage because it lines the gastrointestinal mucosa, protects it, and helps it heal in case of irritation or ulcerative lesions.
It also has the property of trapping and neutralizing gases, bacteria, and toxins present in the digestive tract.
Therefore, it is indicated for relieving many gastrointestinal problems:
• heartburn
• gastroesophageal reflux
• abdominal pain
• bloating
• diarrhea
• constipation
How to use it?
Clay is used in the composition of some gastric dressings. It is also sold in pharmacies in the form of tablets or sachets.
It is very well tolerated and is generally used as a three-week treatment.
You can also buy it in powder form to make your own homemade preparations (masks, poultices, drinkable solution). In this case, make sure it is 100% pure natural clay. Preferably choose ultra-ventilated or superfine green clay.
Mix 1 teaspoon of powder in a large glass of water with a non-metallic spoon, such as a wooden spoon. Let this mixture sit for at least 4 hours, then drink the water without the sediment (preferably before meals or in case of gastric burns).
Note: if you use it as a treatment for digestive disorders, do not combine it with activated charcoal or castor oil. Clay is contraindicated in cases of abdominal hernia, high blood pressure, or intestinal obstruction, as well as in pregnant women and children. It should be taken separately from other medications to avoid reducing their effectiveness.
A very useful remedy on vacation.
Due to its many virtues, clay is THE natural remedy to have at home or to take with you when traveling. During vacations, it can be very useful against digestive problems such as the infamous traveler's diarrhea!
To relieve acute diarrhea, simply pour 1 teaspoon of ultra-ventilated clay into a glass of water, stir and immediately drink this clay milk. It is even recommended to prepare a second glass to drink 4 hours later. Do not exceed 3 glasses of clay milk per day.
On vacation, green clay can also be used externally (as a poultice) on a wound, blister, insect bite, or superficial burn. Applied as a poultice for 24 hours, it brings difficult-to-remove splinters to the surface of the skin.
The clay poultice also relieves inflammations and injuries such as sprains. Simply apply a thick layer of about 1 cm, cover with plastic wrap to retain moisture, and let it sit for at least 1 hour.
