Homemade Body Scrub: 5 Easy Recipes With Pantry Ingredients

To have soft and silky skin, there's no secret: you need to exfoliate! In the summer, body scrubs also help prepare the skin for the sun and make your tan last longer. By making your own exfoliating treatments, you can choose the natural ingredients that best suit your skin type. We will give you 5 easy recipes to prepare a homemade body scrub with ingredients from your pantry.

1- To tone the skin: coffee grounds scrub.

If your skin tends to sag and you have cellulite in certain areas, opt for a toning scrub made from coffee grounds and coconut oil.

Among our 5 easy recipes, this homemade body scrub is unique in that it contains caffeine, like most anti-cellulite treatments available commercially. To make it, simply mix:
• 8 tablespoons of coffee grounds.
• 2 tablespoons of water.
• 1 tablespoon of coconut oil melted for 3 minutes in a double boiler or 20 seconds in the microwave.

By preparing this treatment yourself, you can adjust the amount of coffee grounds in this mixture, so that the scrub is more or less abrasive depending on the areas to be exfoliated.

Note: always perform a gentle scrub on delicate areas such as the décolleté and reserve products with a more granular texture for less sensitive areas like the arms, thighs, and buttocks.

Once your mixture is ready, apply it on damp skin, with upward smoothing motions. Focus on the sagging areas or those with cellulite and then rinse thoroughly.

2- To reduce spots: lemon scrub.

Among the 5 easy body scrub recipes, this lemon and turmeric recipe is particularly aimed at those who want to even out their skin texture.

To prepare this homemade body scrub, simply mix:
• 500 g of granulated sugar.
• 3 tablespoons of melted coconut oil.
• The grated zest of one lemon.
• A pinch of turmeric powder.

Once the mixture is ready, gently apply a small amount of the exfoliant to the body, focusing on areas with spots or minor imperfections. Turmeric is known for its anti-spot effect.

Warning: The essential lemon oil contained in the fruit's zest has a photosensitizing effect. It is therefore preferable to do this scrub in the evening and apply sunscreen the next day if you are exposed to the sun.

3- To slow down regrowth: exfoliation with tiger nut oil.

Among these 5 easy scrub recipes, I offer you one with a more unusual vegetable oil than coconut oil or olive oil. Tiger nut oil is known for slowing down hair regrowth. It thus allows you to prepare an anti-regrowth body scrub at home.

To make this homemade exfoliating treatment, simply mix:
• 2 tablespoons of tiger nut oil.
• 1 tablespoon of crystallized honey.
• 1 tablespoon of orange blossom water.

Apply this mixture on dry skin, targeting the shaved or waxed areas, such as underarms and legs. Massage these areas with flat hands for 2 to 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

To optimize the anti-regrowth effect of tiger nut oil, it is recommended to do this scrub one to two days before waxing (or shaving), then again one to two days after waxing.

4- To hydrate the skin: an oatmeal scrub.

Oatmeal is a natural ingredient known for its soothing effects on skin problems and inflammations. To enjoy its benefits, you can prepare a homemade body scrub with oatmeal, honey, and olive oil.

To make this exfoliating and moisturizing care recipe, simply mix:
• 4 tablespoons of oatmeal.
• 1 tablespoon of liquid honey.
• 4 tablespoons of olive oil.

Note: in this recipe, you can replace olive oil with an even more nourishing vegetable oil like jojoba oil or argan oil.

Mix well until your preparation achieves a homogeneous texture. Apply it on dry skin with gentle circular motions. Remove the excess scrub with a clean cloth before rinsing.

5- To soothe irritated skin: semolina scrub.

If you have sensitive skin that usually reacts to commercial exfoliating treatments, try the latest of our 5 recipes: the yogurt and semolina scrub!

To prepare this homemade body scrub, simply mix:
• 4 tablespoons of 0% fat Greek yogurt.
• 4 tablespoons of fine wheat or corn semolina.

Note: if you are not allergic to this essential oil, you can add 3 drops of lavender essential oil to your mixture for its soothing and relaxing properties.

In summer, you can add 2 tablespoons of organic aloe vera gel to this treatment for an extra cooling effect. Aloe vera is a soothing and moisturizing ingredient that can be used on irritated skin, including sunburns!

Quickly mix the ingredients with a flexible spatula, then apply to damp skin with very gentle movements to avoid irritating your epidermis. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, then apply a moisturizing lotion or balm.

Good to know
As a general rule, it is recommended to do a body scrub once a week maximum to avoid over-irritating the epidermis. Practiced gently and without excess, this beauty ritual helps to keep the skin smooth and silky and facilitates the absorption of moisturizing treatments.
