Toudou: A Podcast For Toddlers By France Inter
France Inter, which already offers a wide range of podcasts for children, launched at the end of November 2022 a series of stories to listen to for kids from 2 to 5 years old. This podcast entitled Toudou is a real success. We invite you to discover the adventures of a cuddly toy!
Podcasts adapted to children
Even though there is a plethora of podcasts on offer today, it is more complicated to find interesting content for children.
In this area, France Inter radio stands out with a quality offer on various topics, with for example:
- the historical podcast Les Odyssées
- the Bestioles podcast developed in partnership with the Paris Natural History Museum
- A story and... Oli
- Olma, the science discovery podcast.
With the Toudou podcast, public radio has taken on an even more complex challenge: addressing toddlers aged from 2 to 5 years!
The adventures of a cuddly toy
This podcast for the little ones is named after its hero. Toudou is the narrator's blanket. He talks and acts like a little kid and of course, all sorts of adventures happen to him, at home or at the park.
To be accessible to this very young audience, Toudou's stories are short and simple, which doesn't prevent them from being also intelligent, tender and funny.
Each episode lasts about 5 minutes and the narrator's voice manages to hold the attention of toddlers thanks to the questions (what do you think?, has this ever happened to you?) that pepper her stories.
In the end, even parents will find themselves listening with pleasure to this lovely interactive podcast full of inventiveness...
For each of the 10 episodes offered so far, the A side is addressed to children and tells the amazing adventures of the doudou, while the B side is addressed to parents and explains how this story will help stimulate their child's abilities.
Stories that benefit children
It's rare that podcasts are aimed at children this young. And yet, it is in this age range of 2 to 5 years that all of a child's functions are in full development, especially attention, language and social interactions.
It should be noted, however, that this podcast does not aim to over-stimulate toddlers. Rather, each story has been designed to be a moment of play, exchange and interaction between child and parents.
Even if listening to the podcast is beneficial for the development of their cognitive functions, children will find above all playful adventures and a universe all in softness and poetry.
Sit comfortably with your child and let yourself be carried away by the adventures of Toudou. Don't hesitate to take breaks or to go back if your child asks you to.
A concept developed with a neuropsychologist
Behind this very successful podcast, credit must be given to radio producer Zoé Varier and neuropsychologist Sylvie Chokron.
To bring Toudou the doudou to life, they teamed up with director Flora Bernard and sound designer Élodie Fiat. The result is sweet and full of mischief, as in this story where the hero takes a bath and there's a whale coming!

To conclude, we hope that France Inter will develop new episodes of this series of podcasts so that sound content regains its place in the imagination of children, today largely dominated by screens...
