Beside His Shoes: A Hilarious Detective Fiction With Jarry
On Wednesday at 9:10 PM, France 2 is airing a delightful TV movie in which the actor and host Jarry plays a novel role. In "Beside His Boots," Jarry portrays a former police officer who is also a medium and an undertaker, promising viewers plenty of hilarious situations!

"Out of His Depth" is a unique detective TV movie that involves not only an investigation but also... funeral homes! The main character, Jeff Lesquint, is the son of an undertaker and has had paranormal abilities since childhood.
This recently suspended cop hasn't taken over his father's funeral business because he hears the voices of the dead and can interact with them. This ability, which many people would call a gift, he sees as a real curse!
When he learns that his father died at a prostitute's home, he quickly realizes it's a setup. He believes this mysterious disappearance deserves an investigation, but his former colleagues won't listen to him.
This is the starting point for this TV movie filled with comical situations and tasty dialogue. Jeff finds himself forced to manage the family business on the verge of bankruptcy and to investigate his father's death on the down-low, unbeknownst to his colleague and former partner Vincent.
A tailor-made casting.
To bring this offbeat comedy TV movie to life, the production enlisted a solid cast, including Théo Fernandez (Donald in The Tuche family), Francis Perrin (who played Antoine Mongeville in the namesake series on France 3) and Marie-Christine Adam, an actress well-known to viewers for her roles in Plus belle la vie and Nina on France 2.
In À côté de ses pompes, viewers will be delighted to see Francis Perrin playing the hero's father. The actor cleverly portrays the director of a funeral home who died under very particular circumstances.
As for Jarry, he quickly found his footing in this TV movie that is certainly not a top-tier funeral. The comedian, who took over from Laurence Boccolini as the host of the game show Tout le monde veut prendre sa place on August 5, 2023, once again manages to step out of his comfort zone and convincingly play his role.
As proof of his personal commitment to the project, he chose not to use a stunt double for the fight scenes. In an interview, he mentioned that his children, seven-year-old twins, hated seeing him get beaten up.
A promising fiction.
With its quirky situations and whimsical characters, this police comedy brings a breath of fresh air to the detective show slot on France 2. The concept "Off His Rocker" could even attract the many fans of Jarry if France 2 were to get the idea of turning this one-off TV movie into a new series.
For his part, Jarry does not rule out the possibility of a sequel. He has stated in the press that he would very much like to return to this character "in a series or collection." "I just need to organize myself, but I can do it, because I run on people's love," he said.
