The Code: 5 Good Reasons To Watch The New France 2 Legal Series
From Wednesday, December 1, France 2 will broadcast a new legal series called The Code. This drama, which features a lawyer in search of redemption, is worth watching for more than one reason. We have listed for you 5 good reasons to discover this new series.
1- This series was written by the same team as Chérif
The creators of the new series The Code wanted to renew the codes of the court series genre.
Lionel Olenga and Stéphane Drouet, who worked on the police series Chérif for 6 seasons, teamed up with Cécile Even to write this new fiction for France Télévisions.
2- It features a hero in search of redemption
The main character of The Code series is Idriss Toma, a courtroom ace.
A defender of the rich and powerful, he changes his trajectory and clientele after being shot three times by the husband of one of the collateral victims of his oratory skills and cynicism.
A true miracle worker, our hero decides to seize this second chance to help the poor.
To do so, he decides to join forces with an idealistic lawyer, Nadia, and an ex-legend of the bar, Jeanne Vanhoven.
3- The actors are convincing
Actor Daniel Njo Lobé plays the hero, the 46-year-old Parisian lawyer eager to correct his mistakes, both professionally and personally. In particular, he will try to reconnect with his daughter Chloe, with whom he has a strained relationship.
His performance in The Code earned the actor the Best Actor award at the Séries Mania festival.
Alongside him, the main actors in this new Tv series are fairly unknown to the general public, including Naidra Ayadi as Nadia and Christiane Millet as Jeanne.
But they convincingly embody attractive, funny and moving heroes who make all the originality of this judicial series.
Moreover, throughout the 6 episodes of the first season, viewers will recognize several guests such as Annelise Hesme, Jérôme Bertin and Grégoire Bonnet.
4- This series presents the French judicial system in a realistic way
Far from American procedural series, Le Code aims to portray the French judicial system in the most realistic way possible.
In the presentation press release, France Télévisions' French fiction department explains, 'We decided to revive the genre of the judicial series by tackling real social issues that are being debated [...] around sunny and warm heroines and heroes, steeped in conviction, humanity and humor.'
In the first episode, for example, Idriss Toma represents Estelle Lantez, charged with the murder of her violent partner. The client asserts that she acted in self-defense, but Idriss discovers a completely different reality.
5- This series is presented as popular entertainment
Despite some easiness, The Code series is original and engaging.
Classically crafted but effective, this new judicial series produced and created by the team behind the series Chérif, is built around a common thread, its hero's quest for redemption, and cases wrapped up in each episode.
If this presentation has made you want to watch the first episodes, you should know that this novelty is to be discovered on Wednesday nights at 9:05 pm on France 2 from December 1, 2021.
