The Series Vortex On France 2 In 5 Questions
France 2 has some new programs in store for viewers in 2023. From January 2, the public channel will unveil the first episodes of the series Vortex with Tomer Sisley. Here is everything you need to know about this new series in 5 questions.
1- What is the story?
Vortex is a 6-episode anticipation series that was created from an original idea by Franck Thilliez. The science fiction tinged story takes place in the near future.
The hero Ludovic, played by Tomer Sisley, is a police captain in Brest. Using virtual reality during an investigation in 2025, he discovers a temporal rift that allows him to intervene in the past.
He who lost Melanie, the love of his life and the mother of his daughter Juliette, 27 years ago, will be able to communicate with her in 1998! He then decides to warn her that she will die in 11 days.
But by trying to save Melanie from certain death, Ludovic risks upsetting his life in the present, the one he has spent so much time rebuilding, with a new wife and a son.
2- What is the cast?
The new series Vortex stars Tomer Sisley as Ludovic, a police officer torn between two eras and two families.
In addition to the main character, the main performers are:
- Camille Claris in the role of Melanie, Ludovic's wife in 1998
- Anaïs Parello as Juliette, Ludovic and Mélanie's daughter
- Zineb Triki as Parvana, Ludovic's wife in 2025
- Maxime Gueguen as Sam, the son of Ludovic and Parvana
3- Where was the series shot?
The series Vortex, which will be discovered early this year on France 2, was shot in 2021 and 2022 in Île-de-France and on the side of Brest. The actor Tomer Sisley has moreover fallen under the charm of Finistère, he who did not know these Breton lands well.
In an interview for France 3 Bretagne, the actor emphasized the happiness he had to shoot in this region of France and he said: 'I did not know your landscapes, I had heard a lot about your weather a bit capricious but then the beauty of your landscapes, it's sumptuous!'
So the series takes place partly in Brest and in the surrounding municipalities, Landunvez and Plouarzel.
Lovers of the city of the Ponant will be able to recognize the commercial port of Brest, the bridge of Recouvrance, the café des Quatre vents, the stadium of the Cavale Blanche, the Morvan hospital and the place Guérin.
4- Are the special effects successful?
It is quite rare that French television tries its hand at the science fiction genre. One could therefore fear that this SF police series cannot compete with American fictions, especially for the quality of the special effects...
If you fear that the realization is not up to the ambitions of the scenario, reassure yourself! For the series Vortex, the production has bet everything on virtual reality and has used the technique of Volume, an immersive technology that was first used during the filming of the series The Mandalorian in 2018.
In practice, this shoot did not use a green screen for special effects but a circular wall of LED screens that allow a total immersion of the actors and the viewer in the story. This is actually the first time this innovative technology has been used on this scale in France.
5- Why watch?
As you can see, the Vortex series is worth a look for the innovative nature of its storyline and the technologies used.
This fiction between crime series, romance and science fiction promises us a new visual experience and an idyll at the border between two eras.
Will Ludovic succeed in changing the past without upsetting the present? This is the question that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the six 52-minute episodes...
