Tom And Lola: 5 Things To Know About The France 3 Series
Among the new releases this fall on the channels of the France Télévisions group, a new TV series featuring Dounia Coesens and Pierre-Yves Bon will soon debut on France 3. These two well-known faces to viewers will form a delightful duo in the eponymous series Tom and Lola. Here are 5 things to know about this new French fiction.
1- This series does not hesitate to mix genres.
With the broadcast of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games during the summer, viewers might have regretted not being able to follow police series, romances, or comedies on the channels of France Télévisions…
With the new series Tom and Lola, France 3 might just satisfy all their desires in a single program! Indeed, this original fiction does not hesitate to mix genres. The two eponymous heroes are police officers, but also and above all friends since forever.
The first is a narcotics officer, while the second is a captain in the criminal investigation department. When Tom finds himself homeless after his wife leaves, Lola has no choice but to take him in. But the situation drags on and becomes complicated when the two friends finally have to work together within the criminal investigation department.
To make matters worse, their daily life under the same roof also disrupts the lives of their children! Tom has a 14-year-old daughter in shared custody and Lola is the mother of two teenagers…
2- She owes a lot to her duo of actors.
After portraying Johanna in Plus belle la vie and then the doctor Emma in La Doc et le véto, Dounia Coesens lands another leading role in the series Tom et Lola.
As the title suggests, this crime fiction largely relies on these two main actors. Alongside Dounia Coesens, viewers will recognize another TV series regular: actor Pierre-Yves Bon, seen notably in Piste Noire on France 2 and Meurtres dans le Jura on France 3.
3- It was filmed in the department of Var.
After the series Plus belle la vie filmed in Marseille and Demain nous appartient filmed in Sète in Hérault, Tom et Lola is another French fiction that has chosen the South of France as its setting.
The new France 3 series was indeed filmed between November 2023 and June 2024 in the municipalities of Toulon and La Seyne-sur-Mer in Var. The people of Toulon were able to encounter the filming crews at Anse Méjean, on Place du Globe, at Carré du Port, and in other iconic natural settings of Toulon and its metropolitan area.
Note: A telegenic city, Toulon hosted more than fifty filmings in 2023. The relocation of filming to regions, with significant economic benefits, meets the desire of viewers to follow stories closer to them and their daily lives.
4- It follows in the footsteps of Tandem.
The synopsis of the series Tom and Lola might remind you of something if you are a loyal viewer of France Télévisions fictions… Some internet users have noticed the multiple similarities between the new France 3 series and the series Tandem, which was broadcast for seven seasons on the same channel.
The production acknowledges being in the same vein as the series Tandem, which was filmed in Montpellier. In both cases, the heroes share their daily lives both professionally and personally. This new series is also produced by DEMD Productions, which is also behind Tandem, Caïn, and Joséphine, guardian angel...
The artistic director of the new series, Cyril Hauguel, however, highlighted the uniqueness of "Tom and Lola" in the columns of Var-Matin: "It's a family series that will do good. We bring a bit of freshness and modernity, with younger characters than what we are used to seeing in these types of fictions."
This new feature will brighten up your autumn evenings.
All the charm of the Tom and Lola series lies in a clever mix of crime stories and comedy... with the added bonus of the sunny South of France!
On this subject, the artistic director of this fiction stated: "We aim for a comedic intention, with a desire to take a step aside while staying grounded and realistic in the characters' destinies. We want to engage the audience in a logic of entertainment with, in the realm of crime, some very beautiful puzzles in the spirit of Agatha Christie."
The first season, which consists of 12 episodes of 52 minutes each, looks very promising. The two partners will face thorny criminal cases and much more personal problems. As they spend more time together at home and in the squad, will these inseparable duo eventually crack?
