Studio Harcourt L'art De La Lumière : A Photo Exhibition In Nice

Notice to fans of the black and white portraits of Studio Harcourt! The Charles Nègre Museum of Photography in Nice will dedicate an exhibition to the famous studio. Come and discover some of these timelessly elegant portraits and pose in a Harcourt booth to leave with your own portrait.

French elegance since 1934

If Studio Harcourt's portraits are famous throughout the world and defy time and fashion, it is undoubtedly because of the values of excellence and high standards that drive this studio.

This place was imagined by Cosette Harcourt in collaboration with Robert Ricci and the Lacroix brothers. Since its creation in 1934, the Harcourt style has often been imitated but never equaled!

This style, which has become an unmistakable signature, is at the heart of the exhibition Studio Harcourt L'Art de la Lumière presented at the Musée de la Photographie Charles Nègre in Nice from February 4 to May 22, 2022.

Glamour inspired by the golden age of cinema

Nearly 100 years after its inception, everyone knows the black and white portraits from Studio Harcourt.

But did you know that this studio's aesthetic was inspired by the glamour of the golden age of French cinema in black and white?

Each portrait is the result of a clever alchemy between emotion and technique. The Harcourt style is a unique image telling a story and an emotion through an elegant mastery of chiaroscuro.

The exhibition 'Studio Harcourt L'Art de la Lumière' presented in Nice is an opportunity to decipher this extremely codified aesthetic, where the model is taken from his best angle.

Often three-quarter or low-angle, the model is lit by a cinema projector light creating a strong chiaroscuro effect.

A label that defies time and fashion

Now labeled a living heritage company or EPV, Studio Harcourt continues its quest for timelessness.

Through its famous portraits, it keeps the memory of great figures from the world of art, culture and politics.

Although the studio has been bought out several times, it is still in business and continues the great tradition of Parisian portrait studios. Its legend defies the passage of time.

Come and take the pose

If you've always dreamed of having your picture taken the Harcourt Studio way know that your dream is about to come true!

For the duration of the exhibition presented in Nice, you will have free access to a Harcourt photo booth installed in the Charles Nègre Museum.

Launched as a preview at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, this photo automaton allows everyone to touch the Harcourt myth with their own hands.

Thanks to this photo booth, visitors can leave with a small black and white print in the spirit of the famous studio. So, make yourself beautiful and come pose like a movie star!
