Christmas Diy: How To Make A Personalized Candy Jar?
During the Advent season, I love to offer seasonal treats like Christmas cookies and papillotes to young and old foodies. This gave me the idea to create custom glass jars to showcase holiday treats. This project is a Christmas DIY that you can do with kids because it's so simple to make. I explain how to make a custom candy jar in just a few steps.
What are the materials for this Christmas DIY?
To make a custom candy jar, I simply used a Le Parfait jar with a 1 liter capacity. This size seemed perfect for me to put an assortment of candy and papillotes or even Christmas cookies (the famous Alsatian bredele) in.
But of course, nothing prevents you from using other jars or customizing an old glass candy jar that you already own...
For this creative project, I also used acrylic paint markers in different colors (pictured below). Very easy to use, these markers are like markers but contain an all-media acrylic paint.
I didn't regret my purchase (priced at about €10 for 16 markers in different colors) because these very clever markers allow you to draw on glass, plastic or wood, which opens up many possibilities for personalized gifts this holiday season.
What are the different steps of this Christmas DIY?
To make a custom candy jar, start by cleaning and thoroughly drying the container you want to use.
If like me you choose to customize a Le Parfait jar, you can rid it of its rubber seal because your candy jar doesn't need to be airtight.
Before you get into the actual customization, you need to choose the Christmas design you want to represent on the smooth surface of the glass jar.
Also choose the personalized message you want to write, such as the recipient's first name or the phrases Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc.
As for me, for my first attempt, I chose very simple snowflake designs and small 4-pointed stars and left the message written in white felt as the main focus.
What other tips should I know?
During this creative project, it occurred to me that the choice of color is important to make a personalized candy jar with prominent designs and messages. White seemed to me to be the most legible color to contrast with the bright colors of the Christmas candy and wrappers.
To avoid screw-ups, I also recommend practicing drawing the design of your choice on paper before moving on to decorating the jar, especially if you want to go for a complex design like a Santa or a red-nosed reindeer!
Once you've written and drawn what you want on the glass jar, don't forget to let it dry before handling and filling it with goodies.
What are the possible variants?
This Christmas DIY not only makes a custom candy jar but also a cookie jar to store and serve the famous Alsatian bredele or simple cookies.
So for my second attempt, I set out to customize an American cookie jar style.
Since cookies have more neutral shades than Christmas wrappers, I used more colors for the customization of this second jar, namely white, red and gold.
How do you put the finishing touches on your gift?
If you want to make a personalized candy jar to give, you can add a finishing touch to your creation by adding a ribbon.
I recommend using a real satin ribbon in a beautiful Christmas color (like red, green or gold).
Once you've filled your jar with candy or treats, simply tie the ribbon around the jar, just below the lid.
