Bungee Fitness: Fitness In Weightlessness.
If you want to spice up your weekly workout sessions, try bungee fitness, the discipline that is revolutionizing the world of fitness! This new trend, still relatively unknown in France, involves doing exercises in a semi-weightless state while being suspended by an elastic cord. We invite you to discover this sporty and playful discipline through 5 questions.
What is bungee jumping?
Bungee is a new discipline that combines fitness exercises, dance, and acrobatics practiced in partial weightlessness.
During these strength training and stretching sessions, practitioners are suspended by an elastic cord. More specifically, they wear a harness attached to the ceiling by a strap or bungee cord.
This elastic cord is adjusted to the weight, size, and level of each participant. When you slip into the harness, your feet remain on the ground but the cord is stretched, creating a form of weightlessness.
2- Where does this new fitness discipline come from?
If you've never heard of bungee before, that's perfectly normal! This new form of playful fitness comes straight from Asia.
It was invented in Thailand and was imported to the United States before arriving in Europe.
In Europe, it is becoming increasingly popular in Eastern countries as well as in Portugal and Spain, but it is still unknown in France.
What is the interest of bungee jumping?
Perhaps you are wondering what is the point of hanging from the ceiling to do your fitness exercises... Contrary to what one might think, the addition of a harness and strap has not only the purpose of making the training more fun.
The presence of the elastic band forces practitioners to constantly engage their deep muscles in order to perform the different exercises and transition between postures. This accessory also allows for resistance training against the band.
In addition to being an effective muscle strengthening exercise, this new discipline is gentle on the joints. The elastic band facilitates certain movements and smoothens the transition from standing position to plank position on the floor.
The impact on the floor is reduced, which protects the ankle and knee joints. This discipline is therefore suitable for people who are overweight and/or have joint problems.
Furthermore, this discipline helps overcome fears (such as the fear of going headfirst) and learn to let go.
4- Who is this discipline for?
Bungee is a fitness discipline open to practitioners of all levels, including beginners. Indeed, the presence of the elastic makes certain movements easier and adds a playful aspect to the training session, which enhances motivation.
On the other hand, the strap is also a plus for people who already have good physical condition. It allows them to gain speed in chaining movements and to work on their cardio even more!
If the idea of practicing exercises and stretches in semi-weightlessness appeals to you, note that the most important thing is to find a class suitable for your level. With the help of the coach, you will gradually learn to master the famous elastic and the specific gestures of this discipline.
5- Where can one practice bungee jumping?
Bungee jumping being a relatively recent discipline, it is not yet offered in all fitness centers in France.
This new and playful form of training is practiced in only a few centers and cities in France:
• Magic Form, 12 rue Pierre Larousse 75014 Paris
• Centre Ió, 77 cours Pierre Puget 13006 Marseille
• My CMCoaching, 7 rue Jean Lajoinie 24750 Boulazac in the suburbs of Périgueux
Before getting started, make sure to equip yourself properly: sneakers and tight-fitting clothing are a must. For women, bodysuits are preferable to t-shirts to avoid chafing caused by the harness. As for men, they should choose cycling shorts with reinforced crotch area to minimize discomfort.
