If you love Nice olives, olive paste, and oil from our region, don't miss the Open House Day at the oil mills of the Alpes-Maritimes! Each year, the Interprofessional Union of Nice Olive, the Chamber of Agriculture of the Alpes-Maritimes, and the oil mills and cooperatives of the department come together to showcase this local expertise to the public. An event marked by tradition and culinary delight!
Iconic products from the department
The olive tree is the emblematic tree of the Mediterranean basin. In France, the PACA region naturally ranks as the leading olive-producing region.
In the Alpes-Maritimes and the County of Nice, olives have been cultivated since ancient times and are used in all kinds of dishes. Olive oil is an essential element of the local gastronomy, used both for preparing a Pissaladière and for seasoning the famous Niçoise salad!
The Open Day of the oil mills in the Alpes-Maritimes is an event organized by the Syndicat Interprofessionnel de l'Olive de Nice, the Chamber of Agriculture of the Alpes-Maritimes, and the oil mills and cooperatives of the department: an opportunity to discover the secrets of making the precious golden nectar...

The 10th edition of the Open House Day of the olive oil mills in the Alpes-Maritimes will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 in 15 private, cooperative, or communal mills, from Grasse to Menton.
The millers and olive growers of the department are waiting for you to introduce you to their trades and products.
On the agenda: guided tours of the mills, demonstrations of olive harvesting and crushing, and of course tastings of olive oil and specialties like brissaouda (grilled bread rubbed with garlic and drizzled with olive oil).
Practical Information
The Open Day of the oil mills in the Alpes-Maritimes will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the mills of the Pays Grassois, Pays Niçois and Estéron, the Pays des Paillons, and the Pays Mentonnais.
Admission is free.
