The Jacobite Steam Train, in Scotland, is one of the oldest steam trains in the world. This railway line that crosses the Scottish moors has become famous since it was used for the passage of the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies: notice to the fans of the young wizard!
Spectacular landscapes
The Jacobite Steam Train is a tourist steam train that runs in the summer between the towns of Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland.
It is one of the last steam trains to travel through the superior Scottish landscape: moorland and green hills dotted with mysterious castles and lakes (the famous Scottish 'lochs').
These landscapes are so spectacular and typical that they have been chosen as the setting for the Harry potter movies! This railroad is indeed the one that the Hogwarts Express takes to reach the wizarding school. That's why many of the Jacobite's passengers are primarily fans of the saga.
To complete this magical tour, the locomotive used in the filming is also on display in Mallaig during the summer months.
Glenfinnan Viaduct
The Jacobite Steam Train runs from Fort William to Mallaig for about 70 km. Also on this line is Arisaig station, the most western station in Britain.
But the most anticipated moment for all Harry potter fans is definitely the crossing of the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
This viaduct located halfway across the line just before arriving at Glenfinnan station (in the direction of Mallaig) appears regularly in the film adaptations of the saga.
With its 30 meters high and 21 arches, this spectacular viaduct is the highlight of the trip:

Travel dates
The train runs from May to the end of October.
The trip (one way) takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Fares
The round trip costs about 43€ for an adult and 26€ for a child (up to 16 years old).
To save time and money, it is wise to book an outbound trip with this tourist train and a return trip with a regular train (faster and cheaper).
